McCalla man indicted in West Ala. bank robberies | News
BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC)- A federal grand jury has indicted a McCalla man in two 2012 bank robberies.
Christopher Bruce, 35, is charged with robbing the First Financial Bank on Highway 11 Nov. 16 in Vance and also with robbing the West Alabama Bank on Highway 5 in Woodstock Nov. 26.
Investigators said last year that Bruce was down on his luck and had lost hope in going straight. As a convicted felon, it was hard for Bruce to find a legitimate job.
"He said he couldn't get a break and he didn't know how he was going to survive. He said he even pulled over on the side of the road and prayed about it. He just couldn't find it in himself to do anything different," Vance Police Chief Ralph Burnell said.
The Vance and Woodstock police departments, the Bibb County Sheriff's Department and the FBI investigated these crimes.
The U.S. Attorney's Office has not announced a trial date for Bruce.
