CHILTON COUNTY, AL (WBRC)- A judge has appointed a receiver to handle the debt of Chilton Medical Center.
The hospital has been closed since October due to financial problems that included an inability to pay some of the staff. According to county officials the receiver is trying to settle the hospital's debt including money owned to Alabama Power and the city of Clanton.
This receivership follows a commitment by Chilton County to give the hospital's board $960,000. That money was to help the hospital reopen at least temporarily. As the receiver works through the hospital's finances, it's stil unclear when the hospital will open its doors again.
